Transmission Repair and Service
Noticing a problem with your transmission, although one of the most common car problems, can be very difficult. A transmission undergoes the worst beating out of any car system, because unlike the engine, where the parts are made to fit snugly and stay that way throughout the lifetime of the engine, a transmission consists of spinning gears which are constantly engaged and disengaged, causing unavoidable grinding and wearing down of parts. If you hear a buzzing, moaning, screeching, whining, whistling, or humming, it is very likely that something is wrong with your transmission.
If you feel the car kicking when switching gears, getting stuck in gear, or having difficulty switching from one gear to another, it can be as simple of a fix as adding transmission fluid, or as difficult as replacing the entire transmission. Another very common sign of a transmission problem is a strange pattern of RPMs (engine rotations per minute). It is easiest to notice a transmission problem at idle (when the car is not moving, either in neutral), because the engine is at rest in its natural state, with no forces acting upon it, and if it doesn’t run correctly while at rest, there is obviously a problem. Keep an eye on your RPM gauge when starting your car, because after a few minutes of warming up, if the RPMs are still erratic, you should take your car in for a check up. In modern cars, it is sometimes more difficult to detect a problem with the transmission, because in-car software attempts to regulate the movements of the transmission and compensate for any problem or loss of power. It is very important to take it to a shop for your routine transmission check ups, because there are many things that happen with the transmission, and by the time it takes you to notice them, it might be too late. Do not attempt to fix a transmission problem your self, because all the parts are made to fit precisely down to the millimeter, and any variation can cause the entire transmission system to fail unexpectedly, so take it in to one of our transmission repair specialists.
Keeping up on your transmission check up will save you time and head aches in the future, and ultimately save you a huge chunk of money, as transmissions and transmission repairs generally don’t cost less than $1000!
